parking lot outside early voting location in akron, ohio
so, i flew to akron ohio on halloween eve to do my part to save democracy, or at least to observe and document the process. hosted by an active democrat and committed community leader, and surrounded by obama supporters, i witnessed a smart, thoroughly run campaign, and participated in three inspiring days of work, waiting, and engaging activities in a key swing state. most amazing was the mood surrounding this election: people seemed to glow with an optimism i haven't seen in a long time, whether they were involved in the campaign or they were just someone in the neighborhood. in the aftermath of november 4, 2008, i am happy to offer this glimpse at one small part of the democratic process in action.
